SIYAN HUANG
VIDEOGRAPHY & PHOTOGRAPHY

Hi, my name is Siyan! I’m a visual storyteller with a strong video production background.
I grew up in Shanghai, China. I found my passion in videography while studying journalism as an undergrad at Tongji University where I was a principal videographer/video editor for two years, making videos to help promote student events. During this time, I also fell in love with National Geographic documentaries, and discovered my interest in documentary filmmaking. In my senior year of college I decided to apply to schools in the U.S. to pursue further study in video journalism and documentary filmmaking.
In 2016 I was admitted to Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism as a graduate student. As part of the program I worked as a journalist for Medill News Service wherein I reported on health, gender and social justice issues in the United States. I also traveled to South Africa and Puerto Rico to report stories on a global scale. I produced videos on the experience of Chinese immigrants in South Africa and lives of drug addicts in Puerto Rico. As the final project for our documentary class I directed and produced a 16-minute documentary, Segunda Vida, about a woman in Chicago fighting against Puerto Rican government officials who send their citizens to the United States for unlicensed drug treatment. This documentary was pre-selected to screen at the American Documentary Film Festival in April, 2018.
After graduation I was granted a Fall Internship position at Kartemquin Films, a Chicago documentary powerhouse. During my time there I worked as the Production Assistant for the films Dilemma of Desire and Left Handed Pianist, which reinforced my field shooting expertise. In 2019 I joined the production team of CNBC’s 13th season of American Greed as a Production Assistant. This position provided me with experience in the pace of production within a firm while reaffirming my love of working collaboratively with others to produce a complex and compelling final piece.
While working with CNBC I was also a freelance videographer and video editor for Kaiser Health News, Food Insider, Vital Proteins, Lee Physical Therapy Chicago, and Northwestern University Department of Chemistry. Through my freelancing I learned how to communicate clearly and efficiently with clients of varying video production experience.
In 2021 I joined Fever as a full-time Video Producer. Fever is a live-entertainment discovery tech platform. My responsibilities there include managing, creating and curating social media video content for Secret Chicago social media platforms, developing content strategies, and producing digital ads for Fever events.
Currently I'm a Creative Producer at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for children's hospitals in the U.S. and Canada.
During my free time I enjoy spending time outside, rock climbing with my friends, where I also double as a rock climbing photography hobbyist.
